We are pleased that very nearby the Greyhouse Inn Bed and
Breakfast the river finds a calm, so fishing is a breeze.
The fish shown below were caught just moments away.
It's a
picture postcard area surrounded by the Bitterroot, Beaverhead
and Salmon rivers which give the area claim to the title "The
White Water Capital of The World." The Salmon River is
known for its spectacular scenic river rafting and white water
river rafting.
|
Built in 1894, the Greyhouse Inn Bed and Breakfast is in Idaho's
Salmon River Valley near the largest recreation area in the lower
48 states: "The Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness."
The area is a nature-lover's playground with a variety of activities
available all year around.
Visitors
enjoy the abundant hiking and fly fishing for salmon and rainbow
trout. Great fishing is only a moment's walk from the inn. Big
game hunters revel in hunting elk, bear and whitetail deer.

It
was named The River of No Return by the Indians long ago, since
no one who headed down the river came back. That's because it
is such a strong and vital river in terrifically rugged terrain
that navigating back up the river was next to impossible at
that time.
The
Greyhouse Inn stands nearby the famous Lewis
and Clark Trail, just one interesting aspect of Idaho history
for visitors to explore. A modest drive will also lead you to
various hot springs both natural hot springs or a more commercial
version.
|
In the Spring and Summer, you will be amazed by the meadows of
flowers and unique grasses. And in the Winter, the muffled silence
and considerable snow pack is magnificent. For every season, the
easily accessible Greyhouse Inn Bed and Breakfast in Salmon, Idaho
has something for everyone. |

Historic Lewis & Clark Trail
| Rich
History and The Lewis & Clark Trail |
|
Almost 200 years ago, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark
stood high on a ridge-line that divides continental
waters, and began the discovery of the American Northwest.
After the Lewis and Clark expedition, the Salmon River
country would never be the same. Others soon followed,
eager to share in the development of the West. Early
day gold discoveries led to settlements known as Shoup,
Gibbonsville, Cobalt, Gilmore, Leadore, Yellowjacket,
and many more. Only the ghosts and a few building remnants
remain in many of the mining towns in this area. We
suggest you tour the ghost-town of Leesburg, the discovery
site of rich gold deposits in 1866. The ensuing gold
rush led to a mining town at Leesburg of three thousand
people, and the creation of Salmon City in 1867. Another
very worth-while site to see is the one-hundred-mile-long
supply trail to Thunder Mountain. On your way there,
be sure to see the Chinese miners' graves and read the
information signs explaining mining activities in this
area.
We strongly encourage all our guests to take to the
back-roads with us and, explore these beautiful mountain
ranges, and learn the rich history of this region.
Learn the local history of famous Shoshoni notables
such as Cameahwait, Sacajawea, Tendoy and others.
Then participate in all the available out-of-doors
activities that abound in this pristine part of the
world. We have golfing, hiking, and biking, horseback
riding, river rafting, touring and sight-seeing, snowmobiling,
cross-country skiing. For the hunter or photographer,
wildlife abounds. We suggest that all you outdoor
enthusiasts, rough it at the Greyhouse Inn! At the
end of a strenuous day, treat yourself to elegant
lodging at the Greyhouse Inn Bed and Breakfast. For
fishers, Spring and Fall Steelhead runs are great.
There are many places to fish; mountain lakes and
streams dot the country-side.
